I tend to try and visit expensive places during their off-season, Helsinki is a good example. The booze is crazy expensive, and during the summer it's packed with people absorbing the short-lived warm weather. I had a good time nonetheless, I was able to fully appreciate why it is considered the country with the happiest people. Everyone I talked to genuinely felt happy calling Helsinki their home.

With the sunsetting around 3:30 during winter, the lighting with the abundant snow and clear air was pretty incredible. I think next time I go back, i'll pack the thermal underwear.

Near the waterfront, Helsinki has some cafes and thermal pools to soak in to take a break from the brutal winter temps.
